July 26, 2007

According to MIC (Market Intelligence Center), an ICT industry research institute based in Taipei, global WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) shipment value is expected to reach NT$300 billion (US$9.15 billion; US$1=NT$32.8) by 2012, while WiMAX CPE shipment volume is expected to reach 160 million units in 2012.

In 2006, Taiwanese WiMAX CPE shipment value reached NT$750 million (US$22.9 million), which is expected to grow to NT$121.6 billion (US$3.71 billion) by 2012. Main applications will be residential CPE and notebook PC network cards, with these two applications expected to account for 90% of Taiwanese shipment volume by 2012.

Worldwide WiMAX BTS shipment value is expected to reach NT170 billion (US$5.18 billion) by 2012, with shipment volume forecasted to reach two million units. In 2007, Taiwanese WiMAX BTS shipment value is expected to reach NT$140 million (US$4.3 million). As major equipment vendors, such as Alcatel, Nortel, and Alvarion, are expected to give orders to Taiwanese makers in the coming years, conservative estimates predict that Taiwanese WiMAX BTS shipment value will hit NT$17.5 billion (US$533.5 million) in 2012.
